David De Gea criticises Van Gaal and praises appointment of ‘winner’ Mourinho

David De Gea has praised the appointment of former-Chelsea boss José Mourinho at Manchester United and made it clear that the last two years were not up to scratch at Old Trafford.

The three-time player-of-the-year winner did not hold back on speaking firmly about Van Gaal’s reign, as he expressed his desire to work under a “winner” like Mourinho after a fairly bleak few seasons.

Despite the woes that United have suffered in recent times, De Gea has still shown that he is one of the finest goalkeepers in the game with his standout performances.

“I came to United to win trophies and it is true that these last two years we have not been at the level this club deserves,” the Spanish international told Cadena Ser on Friday.

“But hopefully, with the change of coach, United will be back at the highest level”

De Gea also said that he had not yet spoken with Mourinho, yet praised his winning mentality and personality.

“I think at United we needed a coach like him – a coach with personality and a winning coach,” he said.

“The signing of Mourinho is a wise move.”
