Bruno Fernandes reacts to heated exchange with Victor Lindelof

It was a frustrating night for Manchester United yesterday evening.

The Red Devils crashed out of the Europa-League to Sevilla, despite dominating large phases of the game. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men saw 7 shots on target compared to the Spanish side’s 3, with Bono being in solid form, much to the annoyance of United.

Given the high stakes on the night, tensions understandably boiled over. Sevilla’s second goal came via a couple of defensive errors from United’s end, with both Brandon Williams and Victor Lindelof failing to cut out the danger from Jesus Navas’ cross.

The Swede, in particular, was caught out by Luuk de Jong’s movement, with the striker finding space and poking home the winner.

Amidst the frustration of conceding, Lindelof and Bruno Fernandes were captured in a heated exchange. The two were clearly in disagreement over who was at fault for the goal, with the former screaming ”f*** you” in the direction of the midfielder.

Fernandes has been quick to downplay the incident. Via the club’s official site, the Portuguese international had the following to say: “I think it is normal, you know, when you take a goal and we have 10 minutes left to score again.

“Everyone was mad. It is not about me and Victor, it is about every team. What happened between me and Victor is nothing, it is normal and in football it happens. It is looking out for each other and there will be more times when these things happen in football, in other teams and in everything.

“The most important thing now is to see the mistakes everyone did and to look forward to improving in the next games.”

Playing at this level is always likely to spark such emotions. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also took time to address the matter, claiming that ‘it was just a bit of frustration that took the boys.’
