Manchester United must pick themselves up and dust themselves off following last weekend’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and look ahead to their next must-win Premier League contest.
The Red Devils have been granted six days to prepare for this Saturday’s early kick-off away to Everton in what comes as their last-ever trip to Goodison Park in the Premier League.
David Moyes will also reunite with his former club once again after enjoying a superb start to his second stint with the Toffees; he has won four and drawn once in his opening six matches since returning to Merseyside and succeeding Sean Dyche.
14th-placed Everton hold a one-point advantage over 15th-placed United heading into the clash, meaning they could increase the gap to four points with a win this weekend. If you want to test your resolve on who’ll come out on top, take a look at the Premier League betting markets.
Additionally, if West Ham are able to overturn title-chasing Arsenal on Sunday, Ruben Amorim’s side could drop to 16th by the end of matchweek 26.
United team news vs Toffees
In terms of the personnel Amorim is working with, he’ll be without trusted starters Amad Diallo and Lisandro Martinez, the latter of which has just undergone successful surgery to repair his torn anterior cruciate ligament. The duo are now unavailable until the end of the term.
Kobbie Mainoo remains sidelined with a calf strain, while Manuel Ugarte, Leny Yoro, Christian Eriksen and Toby Collyer could return sooner rather than later, having missed the Spurs defeat.
There have been few updates on Mason Mount and Luke Shaw, both of whom have endured injury-plagued seasons – as they did in 2023/2024. In fact, February 18 marked an entire year since Shaw had started a club game – despite featuring for England at last summer’s Euros.
“Of course [we’re frustrated], for us, for our fans. But we need to stop focusing on the big picture, it’s not the moment to do that, just focus on the next game,” said Amorim after sustaining his ninth defeat as United’s head coach in all competitions.
“Do everything to win some games to finish the season and then think in the big picture. In this moment, it’s just to try to keep the players healthy, recover some players and focus on what we have to do in the next game.”
After taking on the Toffees, United host Ipswich Town on Wednesday, February 26, followed by a fifth-round FA Cup tie at home to Fulham on Sunday, March 2.
