Speaking in a recent interview, Jessie Lingard has revealed that himself and Marcus Rashford have set themselves individual targets to achieve across the forthcoming season. The two players evidently share a special bond both on and off the field, as being old school friends, Rashford and Lingard have been labelled as a bit of an ‘inseparable duo’ around the club. However, the two were making all the headlines following their performances in Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over Burton Albion on Wednesday night, with both of them getting on the score-sheet.
After the emphatic attacking performance, Lingard did reveal to the United Review that he is aiming to contribute more this season, stating: “I think I’d like more goals and assists coming into play this year. Marcus and I have set little targets for ourselves. In each game, we set them ourselves, but that’s our little secret and we have our own ambitions as well. Hopefully we can achieve them.”
Rashford himself is certainly enjoying a bright start to the season, scoring five goals across all competitions, with the young Englishman establishing himself as one of the club’s most promising talents across the last decade. Lingard, like much of the Old Trafford faithful, was also full of praise for Rashford, in which he stated: “Each game, he’s improving and he wants to work hard and learn from the best,” added Lingard. “As long as he keeps scoring goals, people will talk highly about him.”
United fans will certainly be hoping that the goals and assists from the likes of Rashford and Lingard will continue throughout the season, as both look set to play a pivotal role in any success that United will achieve during this campaign.
