Daniel James won’t be loaned out next season

Daniel James will be staying with Manchester United next season, despite recent rumours linking him with a loan move away.

James has enjoyed a productive debut campaign for the Red Devils since joining from Swansea City. No other player in the United squad has registered more assists this season (7), and his blistering pace has been utilised to devastating effect by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at times.

It was reported by The Sun last month however, that the club could look to loan the Welshman out for a year, to make room for Jadon Sancho.

As per the player’s agent though, Jonathan Barnett, the 22-year-old will remain in the manager’s plans for next season. Speaking to Stretty News, the Stellar Group employee squashed such rumours when asked about them by stating: “No. He’s a major part of Man United’s team. I see him playing for Man United.”

Although his performances have drawn in some criticism from fans at times, there can be no denying James’ importance to the squad. Only six United players have featured in more minutes across all competitions this season, and loaning out such a player makes little sense, particularly given the club’s lack of depth in the final third.

Even if the highly-desirable signing of Sancho goes through this summer, the Welshman would still be granted minutes on the field. The side’s recent showing in the FA Cup highlighted a need for more depth in quality, and keeping James around certainly helps doing just that.

As a club that competes across four competitions every season, United need to keep effective squad options like James around.
