Fred: We must bounce back strong from Spurs defeat

Manchester United need to bounce back with a win on Saturday evening.

All eyes will be on the Red Devils for the 8:00pm kick-off away to Newcastle, after losing two of their opening three Premier League games of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will bd demanding a reaction from that pummelling 6-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur – it wasn’t just a defeat, it was humiliation. Players have had the international break to mull over the sluggish start to the campaign, and a strong mentality will be required during the tough trip to St James Park.

United midfielder, Fred, has addressed the situation, claiming that the squad are determined to put things right.

He told the club’s official site: “Nobody wants to lose a game, especially at home and by that scoreline. We’ve thought a lot about it and talked a lot in the dressing roomhe told us.

“It was really bad for us, but we have to come back stronger, better, more focused and I’m sure that Saturday we start all over again. It will be a great game against Newcastle and we need to do our best to get the win.”

The Red Devils looked lacklustre against Spurs, but the Brazilian believes that the international break has served as ideal time to recover: “The international break has been really good for us because we’ve had time to rest and think about what we’ve done. Time to train too, as we didn’t have a pre-season, so we needed to take this time we had during the international break and put it to good use – to train, to perfect a few things.”

United must put that harrowing defeat behind them, and simply look forward. The transfer deadline day recruits in Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri will all inject some new life into the side and hopefully rejuvenate the squad, who look in need of a ‘pick me up’.

Fred is sharing this positive mindset: ”Of course now, it’s important for us players to look ahead,“ he continued.

”What happened in the last few games is in the past. We have to think ahead, about the games coming up, for us to go on a great run. We need to aim to get points, do our best so we don’t have to play catch up further down the line. We need to do our best now in these upcoming games, look ahead and get the wins.”
