Scott McTominay: Manchester United must maintain focus

Scott McTominay has previewed Manchester United’s upcoming Champions League game with RB Leipzig, calling for the Red Devils to maintain their focus and deliver another three points.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side got their CL campaign off to a perfect start last week, putting in solid display and leaving Paris with a 2-1 victory – going into the fixture, not many were giving the Reds a chance.

McTominay started the game and epitomised what the Red Devils needed on the night, he was as assured and resilient as anyone else on the field. The win will mean nothing though, should United drop off on Wednesday evening, the midfielder has claimed.

Speaking to the club’s official site, the Scotsman said: “With a big win on Wednesday, it would be massive for everybody and the confidence that we are getting each week, and match by match, it would be really beneficial for the squad.

“There’s no point going away to Paris, when it is a big game and the whole world is watching, and doing really well, and then not playing as well or doing all the right things that got you the win in Paris at home against Leipzig.”

The Germans will present a tough ask though, after breezing past İstanbul Başakşehir in their first group game. Julian Nagelsmann’s men also sit top of the Bundesliga after five matchdays, yet to taste defeat this season.

Nobody at Old Trafford will be expecting a stroll in the park, least of all McTominay. He finished by saying: “We know the intensity that they will bring. They are a terrific team, I watched them a lot last year with a lot of the coaches in the Champions League games that they played.

“They’re a very, very intense team with a good coach and good players as well, so it is not going to be an easy game at all.”
