Odion Ighalo can’t return to his parent club until October

Manchester United have received a boost in their attempts to keep Odion Ighalo until the end of the season.

The striker joined United on a short-term loan deal from Shanghai Shenhua in January as cover for the injured Marcus Rashford.

He scored four goals in his first eight appearances before the football season was brought to a halt by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Premier League will eventually resume in June, but Ighalo’s loan deal is set to expire at the end of this week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to keep him until the end of the season, but negotiations with his parent club have proved difficult.

Shanghai Shenhua are demanding that their star striker returns to the club for the start of the Chinese Super League season.

However, Sike football reporter Miao Yuan is reporting that players and coaches who are currently outside of the country may not be allowed to return until October.

If Ighalo can’t return to China anytime soon, he could be allowed to remain at Old Trafford for a little longer.
