Southampton have enquired about signing Manchester United’s Brandon Williams on loan.
The Red Devils are set to welcome Alex Telles today, creating competition in the full-back department. The Brazilian is set to challenge Luke Shaw for that starting position at left-back, subsequently pushing Williams down the pecking order.
Telles’ arrival could see the Englishman shift over to right-back, to act as cover to Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 20-year-old looks much more comfortable down this channel, given that he is right-footed.
When operating down the left, Williams has a tendency to come inside and drag the ball onto his preferred foot, often slowing down United’s transitional play.
Himself and Timothy Fosu-Mensah now look set to battle it out for that no.2 position, but perhaps a loan move would suit the Englishman.
As per the MEN, Southampton are among a number of clubs to enquire about the defender. It could certainly be one to watch, particularly given the recent first-team promotion of Ethan Laird.
