Councils across England continue to pledge free meals for vulnerable families

A number of councils (via BBC) across England have pledged free school meals for hundreds and thousands of families up and down the country, following Marcus Rashford’s campaign to help those that are most vulnerable, outside of school term.

The conservative government recently ruled against the Englishman’s call to extend the free school meal scheme beyond term time, but that hasn’t prevented organisations and now parliamentary councils committing to the cause.

Various supermarkets and shops have pledged food to those in need, with McDonalds even donating one million meals for families. Rashford’s Twitter feed has been flooded with businesses helping out, in what has truly been a collective and heart-warming day. Many in society have stepped up to the plate, after the government’s failings.

Rashford rightly deserves to receive praise for his actions, with the utilisation of his mass online platform helping connect those that are willing to help, and also spread general awareness.

As the Manchester United player himself states though, this isn’t about him. The actions taken are for children all over the country that go to bed hungry, with society trying to pull together to eradicate this altogether.

Steps are being taken forward to do exactly that, with Rashford being at the forefront of such.
