Manchester United not willing to offer ‘Sanchez-style’ contract to Paul Pogba

Manchester United are not prepared to offer Paul Pogba a ‘bumper’ pay-rise to keep him at the club.

This is according to ESPN, who report that the Red Devils want to tie the Frenchman down a new long-term deal, but have learnt from their mistake with Alexis Sanchez.

United are not willing to break their wage structure for any player, following the implications of Sanchez’s £400,000 a week deal. The club had to cut ties with the Chilean during summer, letting him leave on a free to Inter Milan.

Although Pogba would receive a pay increase, ESPN claim that a ‘Sanchez-style’ contract is out of the question.

It’s also reported that the club recently triggered the one-year extension clause in the midfielder’s deal, meaning it now expires in 2022. United are consequently relaxed around Pogba’s future and are cited in being ‘open’, to the 27-year-old running down into the final year of his contract.

Speculation will no doubt continue to linger around the Frenchman’s future, but for now, Pogba is staying put. Whether he commits to a fresh deal however, remains to be seen.
