Sheffield United could reignite interest in Marcos Rojo

Marcos Rojo has become a forgotten man at Manchester United.

The Argentinean returned to the club last summer following his disastrous loan move at Estudiantes – during his time in South America, the player broke more quarantine rules than he made appearances for the club.

His return to the Red Devils seemed destined to be short-lived, with there being no first-team openings. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof hold their manager’s trust in being the starting duo, with Eric Bailly and youngster Teden Mengi waiting in the wings.

Rumours circulated, and one club that was cited in monitoring Rojo’s situation was Sheffield United, who could now reignite their interest in January.

As per the Sheffield Star, the defender could emerge as a target, to replace the injured Jack O’Connell. Chris Wilder is said to be prioritising a central figure next month, and Rojo could fit the bill. The same outlet claims that the club’s hierarchy see the Argentinian as ‘a person of interest’, but financing a deal could prove tricky.

Rojo is thought to be on a £80,000 a week deal, putting him a bracket above the Blades’ budget. They would require United to contribute, with any move seeming relying on a loan.

Given that the defender has yet to feature in a single minute for the senior side this season, the club could be willing to compromise.
