Manchester United to face Brighton away twice, in the space of four days

It was announced on Friday morning that Manchester United’s Carabao cup tie against Brighton will take place on September 30, with kick-off at 7:45pm.

The significance of this? It means that the Red Devils will be facing the same opposition, in the same ground, twice, in the space of just four days.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side travel to the Amex for the Saturday morning Premier League early kick-off, before then making the exact same journey again, the following Wednesday.

It is, of course, quite a unique situation, with the fixture list conjuring up such a scenario once in a blue moon. United will need to be at the top of their game if they are to come out on top in either though, as Brighton have won their last 3 on the bounce.

Graham Potter’s side look to be quite the dark-horse this season, with their starting XI boasting some quality individuals.

The Red Devils are the favourites for either fixture though, but expect rotation between the two games.

Solskjaer made 10 changes to his XI against Luton Town, and such fringe players will be given another opportunity next Wednesday evening. A victory next week would book United’s place in the quarter-finals.

Saturday is potentially being identified as more of the priority though, after the opening day defeat to Crystal Palace. With ground already to make up, Solskjaer will not be looking to take any risks at the weekend.
